Captain Bernard Carney,
Durham Light Infantry
The Burnley Express of 3 March 1945 p2 reported that:
M.C. and PROMOTED
Lieut. Bernard Carney, who gained the Military Cross at
Anzio, has been promoted to the rank of captain.
Captain Carney was called to the colours in 1940, and commissioned three
years later. In civil life he was a member of the staff of Messrs. R.
Porritt, drapers, and was connected with St. Mary Magdalene's Church.
He is the son of Mrs. and the late Mr. M. Carney, of 11, Lorne Street,
Burnley.
