Burnley in World War 2.

This site is based on original research carried out several years ago by Alan Mackay of Burnley which comprised of a card index, newspaper cuttings and several books of hand written notes from various sources, including local newspaper reports, regimental and unit histories and of course the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

When this archive was talked about by members of The East Lancashire Medal and Militaria Society, Andrew Gill offered to input the information into a data base, this data base will now form the initial content of this site.

As the site grows it is hoped to include a seperate page for each individual listed which hopefully will also have a photo of the man or woman featured, these have been extracted from the Burnley Express and Burnley News by Denis Otter who over the last few years has done some excellent work copying photographs for both this site and its sister sites "Burnley in the Great War" and "Burnley and District Gallantry Awards 1914 -1918".

Thanks are also due to Mike Townend and staff of Towneley Hall Museum, and Susan Halstead and staff of Burnley Central Library for their continual and valuable assistance in all our projects.

We are always looking for material to add to our sites, so please send any information you may wish to have included, to my contact address on the HOME page.
